CONCEPT BEHIND COSTUMES

This project is based on my own experiences with dyslexia and being squeezed into the schooling system. As I was growing up I was told and treated as though I was dumb because I wasn’t linguistically intelligent, which as a child I believed therefor that I was thick. I realized that children all around the country are being told that they are thick at an early age because they can’t do one thing such as spelling. The schooling system is making children stress and compete against each other for grades they might not even benefit from even though they have many amazing abilities that are just as important such as art, dance, social skills and existential thinking. But these abilities are not always profitable and therefor often deemed un-worthy. The world needs and enjoys these abilities, it even pays to see them. I want people to see their own and other people’s worth and understand they are not stupid because they can’t do math’s or spell, they are just as intelligent and could even be more so. Howard Gardner in his theoretical states that there are many different shapes and forms of intelligence, not just logical and linguistic though they are most commonly shared amongst us. CONCEPT

Poem


There was a fairy. Of moor, sea and wood. The wood is where she grew. The mother taught her, filled her body with the rustling of leafs that taught her to dance. To Sway with wind, Sing with the bluebells, laugh with the daffodils and to whisper with the tree’s. There she played. There she prepared for the unknown. But there was freedom.

All to soon. Seize. Playtime was over. Time for the “real-world”. What is that. What world is this?

Cosmos, Forget yourself. Forget your dance, your song.

Everyone is level. So Should be a carbon copy. Really? The same. Correct. But we’re not the same. Shhhhhhh. That doesn’t mean we’re not equal.

Silence!. Just in different ways. Silence! Are you a simple being .

Confused. Maybe she is. Cause this real world. She dose not get. She doesn’t understand them. They don’t understand her. What she did understand was to run. That was real. To run was very important. Essential.

We have evolved to run. So run. If not, you are worthless the world. satisfactory. What is this world? Run for gold, for riches. For happiness, for freedom. So she ran and so did everyone elseThose she was not as fast. Not so good. But others disappeared, out of sight. Some could not move, some ran the wrong direction, going backwards. Wait! Their lost! Stop! Wait.

They are not adequate. They are nay useful. Not productive. Thus lose, inconsequential.
They are just confused. I’m sorry. What. I don’t understand. Just Run. Now. Don’t think. Don’t speak. Run. Run for Gold. Run For president.  Run for power. Run for riches. Run for life, for capability, for potential. She couldn’t. Couldn’t….. keep…… up. Dust. Blind. The dead brie from the others sprayed in her face. She couldn’t detect. Hear. Confused.

What to do. When. Unprofitable. Worthless.

Colour. She see’s something. Through the dust. Quick. It’s just as quick as the others. They. They look different. It rolls not runs. But in a different direction. Run. She runs after it. Following. Running. For. For curiosity. She see’s others. They sway, they hover, they spin, they grow, they trickle, they stick, they jump, they wriggle, they slime, they sing. They remind her. The colour. The mother. Clear. She runs. Rush. RUN FASTER.

One looks at her. She is her. She that is jumped onto another. Then disappeared. To what did she go. Cant. left behind with the others. A shadow. Went . But it was they. They are her. She ran over to they and jumped. Followed. She sprung. Flew up into the sky.

A thing she thought she’d never touch. Even tho. Yes. It felt familiar. She stretched out her arms to hold onto the air. Too touch it all. She caressed the sky between her limbs. It caressed her back through the follics of her hair and kissed her. She opened her eyes. Behold. Her play.


All to too instant.
Dust. Back onto the ground. Run. Run to they. Jump and fly further.

 Run. Jump. Fly.

 Run. Jump. Fly. Play.

 Run. Jump, Fly. Eye’s open.

 Run, Jump. Fly See.

Run. Jump. Fly. think .

 Run. Jump. Fly. Confused.

Run Jump. Fly. Understand.

Run. Jump. Fly. Stop!.

Where am I? Where is she. Stopped. Where am I and Where am I going? Station are they? Too Fast. Dust clears. See could. See could. See. Nothing. No colour. No mother. No leaf, wood, bell, whisper. Site are. Where am I? They. More of they. they run. Run at her. Fast. Frozen. They look different.  No colours, no play? Too fast. Freedom. Bolt. Freedom. Scamper, Jump, Fly. Too fast. Rush. To fast. Jump. Too fast. Fly. Too fast. Too fast for freedom. To fast for play. Too fast to dance. To fast to live. To Live life. RUN!  Run off the world.
