BIBI COOKERY CLASS

Performed and Co- directed by Tiana Khan
Designed and Co-directed by Sally Somerville-Woodiwis

The Bibi Cookery Show is a devised performance based on a true story of a mother who took macabre action to keep her daughter safe. After a threat is made by her abusive husband Bibi is forced to take an extreme measure in order to protect her daughter's safety and basic human right. This performance is an abstract portrayal of a mother’s mental state when victimised, threatened and unsupported by the society she lives in- where female rights are not a priority. The piece explores what a person is capable of when repeatedly pushed to their limit. Bibi's cookery show challenges the stereotypical role of a woman and represents how sexism and inequality are still present today.
